Dial In the Backrest to Fit You

The standard backrest on the Vyper Robust Steel Max and Elevated Steel Max works well for most people. It gives you useful lumbar support without being oversized or getting in the way while you’re moving around the garage.

The Adjustable Backrest is for someone who wants more control over exactly where that support lands.

Instead of locking you into one fixed position, this upgrade lets you raise the backrest to better match your height and tilt it backward up to 10 degrees. That extra adjustment matters when you spend several hours sitting at a workbench, detailing a car, assembling parts, welding, or handling any other job where you’re constantly moving between an upright working position and a more relaxed seating position.

More Adjustment Where It Actually Matters

A backrest only helps when it lands in the correct place. If it sits too low, you end up leaning over it. If it sits too high, it can push against the wrong part of your back and become more annoying than useful.

The Adjustable Backrest lets you change the height so the support lands where it feels natural for your body. Vyper lists the backrest position from 11 to 14 inches, making this especially useful for taller users who find the standard backrest sits lower than they would prefer.

The backrest also tilts backward up to 10 degrees. You can keep it more upright while you’re focused on a part or working at the bench, then lean it back when you’re taking a break, answering a call, or sitting between jobs. You’re not turning the Vyper into a recliner, but you are giving yourself enough movement to avoid being stuck in one position all day.

    Is It Worth Adding?

This is not an accessory that everyone needs.

For shorter work sessions or jobs where you’re constantly getting in and out of the chair, the standard backrest will probably be all you need. Vyper designed it with a contoured lumbar shape, and it works as intended for most users.

The Adjustable Backrest makes more sense if you spend a meaningful amount of time in the chair, are taller, or simply want to fine-tune the support position rather than accepting a fixed height and angle. It replaces the original backrest entirely, so you aren’t stacking another accessory onto the chair or creating additional bulk behind you.

This is the version I would choose for a Vyper being used regularly at a workbench or desk. The ability to adjust the height and change the backrest angle makes the chair more adaptable to how you actually sit and work throughout the day.

    Compatibility

The Adjustable Backrest fits all Vyper Robust Steel Max and Elevated Steel Max models. It can also be used alongside the Adjustable Armrest, Tool Tray, Big Boy Attachment, or Sidekick Attachment.

The attachment can be ordered with a new chair or installed later on a compatible Vyper you already own. Installation requires partial chair disassembly but can be completed with basic hand tools. Vyper includes the necessary installation hardware and instructions.

Each Adjustable Backrest is made in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
