These speakers are dialed in. They have a textured, very stout fit and finish that will be extremely durable in your garage. The 32mm MDF cabinets give these speakers added protection and what I really like is that they don’t have a shiny\/piano-like finish to them. You can easily wipe them and even dry wipe them especially if you’re going to have them on top of your cabinets where a lot of dust will congregate. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eFrom personal experience, the Core Studio Monitors are a match made in heaven for the garage. They are designed for you to listen closely which is why they are called “near field monitors”. The garage is a very harsh environment when it comes to sound. By having a speaker that comes equipped with a silk dome and a very controlled esotar pro tweeter combined with the smoothness you get from a Dynaudio MSP mid-bass or bass driver, they do exceptionally well in a less than ideal listening atmosphere. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eI suspect that most people are not going to sit in between a set of speakers while working in their garage and listen critically to music. However, what I do know without a doubt is that the output of these speakers is insane and because of that, the experience you will have is going to be amazing. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe amplitude, as well as the sound signature you get from them, is hard to beat. You won’t experience any bright sounds with these speakers. I have a sensitive reaction to bright sounds so I want speakers that will emit a warmer\/rich output and these fit the bill. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eI like to identify products with cars. So, to give you an example of what kind of car the Dynaudio Core Studio Monitors would be, I’d say a Ferrari 458 Speciale. A set of high-quality speakers that are made for a recording studio but adapt extremely well in the garage.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThese are the flagship speakers for the garage. What everyone (in my opinion) should aspire to have. Is the price ridiculous? Yes. Are there other quality options out there? Yes. But, for many years now, most of you have trusted my gut and also my hands-on interactions with the products I sell. These speakers are made for low and mid-volume listening in a critical environment like a studio but having them in the garage is a match made in heaven.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThese are categorized as budget speakers in the studio realm but high-end speakers in the garage realm. They are smooth, accurate, and colorless. What I mean by colorless and one of the reasons I love Dynaudio is that they’re going to produce what the original master sounds like without the extra fluff. Most people are looking for color when they’re jamming out and this is what these speakers will deliver.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eWhen you’re in a bright environment like the garage, you want a dark\/smooth-sounding speaker. In the LYD Studio line, we’re taking the silk-dome tweeter and we’re combining it with our tilt filter that we tilt towards low frequencies and we end up with a freaking amazing combination.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe magic in Dynaudio speakers is the lack of fatiguing sound they create. For someone sitting in a recording studio for hours, they will tend to experience ear exhaustion. These are constructed to counteract that fatigue and give the listener a much better listening experience. The same applies to you working in your garage. So, you’ll still be able to relish in the awesomeness of sound at a lower volume while not disturbing the people in your house. They have a 50-watt amplifier for the tweeter, and they added two channels, so each woofer has an 80-watt amplifier attached to it. Initially, I had no intentions of carrying the Dynaudio subwoofers. If I’m being honest, I only wanted them to say I bought the entire catalog. And boy, aren’t I glad I did. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eWhat’s really surprising is that I like the Dynaudio subs more than I like their studio and wireless speakers. The quality, the punch, and the low-frequency hit you get from these caters so well to music, and even when watching movies, these are super-stout.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eSo, let’s start with the little guys - Sub 3 and Sub 9s. Both are small in size but definitely not small in sound. They look identical and share some similarities. For instance, both Sub 3 and Sub 9s have a 9” woofer in a single sealed 9” enclosure. They have a 300-watt Class D amplifier and sound pretty decent. The 3 comes in either black or white when it comes to color options, while the 9s only come in black.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe Sub 3 is designed to work with Dynaudio’s regular speaker line (\u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/dynaudio-emit-passive-speakers?variant=41004333138071\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eEmits\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/dynaudio-evoke-studio-monitors\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eEvokes\u003c\/a\u003e). This sub is a good compliment to a pair of bookshelf speakers in a small, office-type setting. Think of these as a consumer speaker while the Sub 9s are on the pro side. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe Sub 9s is a compliment to the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/dynaudio-lyd-studio-monitors\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eLYD series\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e and explicitly made for this line of speakers. Despite its lesser cost, I’d argue it’s more robust than the Sub 3. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eAnother difference between the 3 and 9s is the front grill. The Sub 3 (consumer-side) has a grill where the 9s don’t. The Sub 3 has a semi-gloss finish, while the Sub 9s has more of a  textured finish. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eNow, let’s talk connectivity. This is where the difference between these two comes in. On the Sub 9s, you will run your speakers through the sub - keep in mind, I’m using the 9s on desks only. You’ll run your \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/velox-balanced-xlr-cable\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eXLR cable\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e out of your audio interface into the Sub 9s and then out of the sub into your \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/dynaudio-lyd-studio-monitors\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eLYD 5’s\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e or \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/dynaudio-lyd-studio-monitors?variant=41165130530967\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eLYD 8’s\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e - these are by far the best speakers for this sub. Your crossing over the signals - the subwoofer takes what it needs and sends the rest of the signal out to the speakers. It’s a quality way to connect.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eWith the Sub 3, it’s relatively the same. In most instances, you’re going to run the low-frequency effects out of your receiver or DAC. So, you’ll run your \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/metra-12-gauge-2-conductor-stranded-cable-500ft\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003espeaker wires\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e to your speaker, and then you’ll run your RCA connection to your subwoofer. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eI will say this, don’t buy these for your garage unless you have a really tiny one. I feel we can do a whole lot better for less. I’m working with SVS now to bring in some more suitable options. Again, the Sub 3 and definitely the Sub 9s are what I’m using in a smaller space or for a desk setup.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eNow, let’s move into the subs that have changed my mind and world. The Dynaudio Sub 6 and 18s. I’m in love with these things. I have a 9s in there because it’s a much smaller space. It’s a pricey setup, I know. However, I want the absolute best audio experience when working at my desk or in my garage. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eSpeaking of the garage, this is precisely where we’re using the 18s. If you’re going to do \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/collections\/dynaudio\/products\/dynaudio-lyd-studio-monitors?variant=41165130530967\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eLYD 8’s\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/collections\/dynaudio\/products\/dynaudio-lyd-studio-monitors?variant=41165130596503\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eLYD 48’s\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/dynaudio-core-studio-monitors?variant=41165074923671\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eCore 59’s\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e, or any studio monitor setups, you want the Sub 18s. These have dual 9” woofers, which are quite different from the smaller guys (Sub 3 and Sub 9s). The 18s has a much more robust surround, a lot more Xmax, and a lot more excursion. It has a Class D 500-watt amp, 200 more watts than its baby brothers. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe enclosure on the 18s feels a lot more heftier as well. You’ll notice on the back of the speaker that there are XLR connections, but they also include RCA. So, you have both types of connections with this Sub. These subs do best when you run a stereo connection to them. Running a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/monoprice-single-male-to-dual-male-rca-y-adapter\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eY-adapter\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e will make this arrangement work. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThe Sub 6 is very similar, but it comes with grills. The color options are Satin Black or Satin White. The back of the 6 is the same as the 18s, which can get a little confusing. The main reason to buy the Sub 6 is for the DSP (Digital Signal Processing). In lamens terms, the DSP manipulates audio signals to optimize the performance of your sound system.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eYou’re going to do better with the 18s in your garage because of its textured finish. You won’t have to wipe on it nearly as much as you would with the 6. Not to mention what I’d like to call “The Hack”, you’re getting the same speaker (as the 6) for less the money. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eChances are, if you’re adding a sub to your audio setup, you’ll want to do it wirelessly. The \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.obsessedgarage.mom\/products\/osd-audio-nero-wireless-subwoofer-kit\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eOSD Audio Nero Wireless Subwoofer Kit\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e makes this connection work so well. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eI’m super excited to have all of these options available. It weighs 108lbs, and you’re going to feel every bit of it when you pick it up. What really makes this thing fit the bill for me outside of its amazing output is the finish - the finish is perfect for the garage.
